FAQs

Here are answers to some questions you may have! If you have any further questions please do get in touch here.

The actual printing process is quick and usually takes approximately 2 minutes per item depending on the complexity of the design.

How long does the printing process take?

You can print the design that is already on the screen. It is not possible to customise the design during the live printing process. The final print will be a replica of the screen design.

What can I print?

The print will be in the colour that is already setup on the screen. You can see the ink colour before printing and this cannot be changed during a live session.

What colours can I print?

Roisin specialises in textile based printmaking so you can print on 100% cotton garments like t-shirts, tote bags or possibly a few other cotton items. Ideally, light coloured fabrics work best to make the printed design more prominent with a clear contrast. You will be able to purchase suitable blank items for printing on during all events.

What can I print on?

Yes! After returning home with your newly printed garment, place the garment flat on an ironing board or on a flat surface. Place a light cotton cloth or even one layer of another t-shirt over it and press with a dry hot iron without steam. This will ensure your print has the longest life. When washing, turn garment inside out, use mild detergent and wash at no more than 40'. Do not tumble dry. Do not apply heat or an iron directly on the print.

Can I wash the garment after applying the print?

Roisin Ni Loingsigh works with water based ink.

what kind of ink is used?

Screenprinted designs are very durable when properly cared for. Following the washing instructions (30' to 40' water, inside out, no direct heat on the print) will help ensure the print lasts a long time.

How durable is the print?

It depends on the event and will be stated beforehand. Depending on the event, there may be blank products in a variety of sizes available to purchase for printing at the live printing session.

Can I bring my own garment for printing?

No. Only 100% cotton fabrics are used. Other materials may not handle the heat setting process well which is crucial for ensuring the longevity of the print.

Can other types of fabrics such as Polyester or blends be used for printing?

No, the live printing process is limited to the designs pre-prepared on the screen. If you are looking for custom designs, it is recommended to work with a graphic designer or illustrator to create a design which Roisin can then prepare for print.

Can I print something different at the live session if I want?

Roisin offers live printing sessions at specific events, festivals or locations. Upcoming public events are posted on Instagram which is linked below. You can also reach out for private or corporate bookings. All the relevant information is available here.

Where can I do this live printing?

Yes! You can book a live printing session by following the Live Printing Information section. You will find all the details and links there to schedule your session.

Can I book a live printing session?

Roisin does not offer in-house design services for individual prints. However, for larger orders (corporate or bulk) a print may potentially be designed. The easiest and fastest option is to collaborate with a graphic designer or illustrator who can create the design. Roisin can then most likely prepare it for printing.

Can Roisin Ni Loingsigh design a print for me?

Yes, the same screen can be used to print the same design multiple times on different garments or items. However, each print will be identical to the original design.

Can the same screen be used for multiple prints?

Roisin highly recommends visiting Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery. They offer workshops and courses that are perfect for learning screen printing and all other forms of printmaking as they are one of very few fully equipped printmaking studios. Check out their website for upcoming exhibitions, events, classes and workshops https://limerickprintmakers.com/
